Tempur's story begins in the late 1960s when NASA scientists invented a new material that was later used onboard the space shuttles.

They invented a viscoelastic material with high energy absorption, which gently supports and relieves pressure. Realizing the materials's unique potential, the founders of Tempur perfected that original NASA invention into TEMPUR material.  The world's first viscoelastic mattress and pillow were created.
